Next week brings the warmest weather so far for 2020

More rain chances Thursday and over the weekend

Seasonable temperatures finally return Thursday and even warmer weather is on tap for next week. A soaking rain targets southern Minnesota this weekend.

Thursday’s forecast

The rain from Wednesday cleared out, but the moisture left behind lower clouds and areas of fog that will lift through Thursday morning, giving way to more sunshine.

There is another weak disturbance that will pass across northern Minnesota Thursday afternoon and evening, bringing a few showers and storms across that part of the state.

Although the rest of the state stays predominantly dry, a couple isolated showers could make it into southern Minnesota, including a slight chance for evening sprinkles in the Twin Cities.

Most of the state will see less than one-tenth of an inch of rain, with northern Minnesota seeing up to one-quarter inch. Otherwise, under more sunshine, much of the state will see the warmest weather in almost two weeks, with highs back in the 60s and 70s.

More rain for the weekend

Friday will be dry and mostly sunny, with seasonable highs in the 60s and low 70s.

By Friday evening, more clouds push across the state as the next weather system approaches, and rain starts moving into the state early Saturday morning.

Rain and isolated thunderstorms spread across the state Saturday, although with the storm center staying south of the state, northern Minnesota will only see spotty showers.

Southern Minnesota has the best chance for a more soaking rain, with areas that could see more than one-half inch of precipitation.

Most of the rain will fall on Saturday, but a few lingering showers are likely on Sunday before the weather system moves out.

Warm weather is on the way

Temperatures remain seasonable through Saturday, then cool slightly on Sunday behind the weekend storm.

Warmer weather returns right away Monday, then temperatures likely stay 5-15 degrees above average for the rest of the week. Even some northern parts of Minnesota could see 80s by the middle of the week, which would be the first 80s of the year for most of Minnesota.

Here is that temperature trend for the Twin Cities:
