Our May rainfall total is 1.40 inches below normal at Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport. It has been a drier than normal May across most of Minnesota and western Wisconsin. Some areas will see soaking rains this weekend. There may be some thunderstorms in the mix at times this Saturday afternoon and Saturday evening.

Weekend temps and winds
Our average Twin Cities high temp is 69 degrees on May 16. We expect highs in the Twin Cities metro area close to 70 degrees this Saturday. Many spots in Minnesota and western Wisconsin will have highs in the 60s:

A few spots in the far northwest and the southeast could top 70. There may be some 50s near Lake Superior.
Saturday afternoon wind gusts of 14-18 mph are possible in eastern Minnesota plus western Wisconsin:

Plotted gusts are in knots, with 13 knots equal to 15 mph. Much higher gusts can be expected near any thunderstorms that develop.
Updraft will be updated by around 9:45 a.m., with a look at Sunday and the week ahead.
