Wintry mix spreads across Minnesota

It won’t rain all day on Sunday, but parts of southern Minnesota and western Wisconsin could see some strong thunderstorms at times.

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s High  Resolution Rapid-Refresh (HRRR) forecast model shows the potential rain pattern Sunday morning through early Sunday evening:

The main wave of showers and thunderstorms moves into southwestern Minnesota late in the overnight hours of Saturday night, then showers and thunderstorms spread across southern Minnesota and parts of central Minnesota and western Wisconsin during the morning hours of Sunday. Another batch of thunderstorms may develop late Sunday afternoon into Sunday evening.

The National Weather Service Storm Prediction Center shows a slight risk of severe weather Sunday and Sunday night in portions of southern Minnesota. Slight risk means that scattered severe thunderstorms are possible. The slight risk area is shaded yellow in this NWS graphic:

The dark-green shaded area (which includes the Twin Cities) indicates a marginal risk of severe weather, which means that an isolated severe thunderstorm is possible. It’s important to note that we’ll also have many dry hours on Sunday.

Many areas will have a chance of occasional showers and isolated thunderstorms on Memorial Day.

Our average Twin Cities high temperature is 72 degrees on May 24. We could touch 80 Sunday afternoon.

Sunday highs will be mainly in the 70s, with some 80s from southeastern Minnesota into western Wisconsin:

Sunday afternoon dew point temperatures will be in the sticky 60s across much of central and southern Minnesota and western Wisconsin:

Back to high temperatures, there will be a lot of 70s on Memorial Day, with some 80s in southeastern Minnesota and western Wisconsin:

Twin Cities metro area highs will probably retreat to the upper 70s on Tuesday, followed by lower 80s Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.
