Scattered showers and storms through Tuesday

Dry breaks still allow for many outdoor Memorial Day activities

The weather pattern stays active through Tuesday, with intermittent showers and storms moving across the state.  Temperatures all week are likely to stay above average.

Monday and Tuesday

Temperatures both days remain above average, with mornings in the 50s and 60s, and highs for much of the state in the 70s.  For the Twin Cities, Monday afternoon may finally bring the first 80 of the season, which is about three weeks later than average.

It’s especially unusual given that many northern parts of the state already hit 80 last week, including International Falls getting to 80 or above three times last week.
Occasional showers and storms are likely both days. Southeastern Minnesota is already getting a few showers and storms Monday morning. That part of the state could see isolated stronger storms later in the afternoon or evening both Monday and Tuesday, with wind and hail being the primary risk.

While spotty wet weather impacts both days, the majority of the state stays dry and mostly cloudy through much of Memorial Day. The highest chance for showers and storms for most of Minnesota comes in the late afternoon and evening hours Monday, and through the overnight into Tuesday morning.

Then rain chances diminish across the state Tuesday from west to east through the day.  While most of Minnesota sees a half inch or less of additional rain through Tuesday, the northern and southern edges of the state will likely see slightly higher amounts.

Especially for northern Minnesota, which has been very dry this spring, the rain is very beneficial.

Extended forecast

By Wednesday, except for a few isolated showers that may linger in southeastern Minnesota, the state sees drier skies and more sunshine return.

A few spots could hit 80 on Wednesday, but highs across most of the state through the end of the week stay in the 70s.  Isolated showers are possible again on Thursday, but overall, the second half of the week is far less active and brings much more sunshine!
