Wintry mix spreads across Minnesota

Temperatures will rebound nicely Sunday afternoon. Most of Minnesota and western Wisconsin will have highs in the 70s, with some upper 60s possible near Lake Superior. 

Our average Twin Cities high temperature is 74 degrees this time of year. Most of the metro area is expected to reach highs in the comfortable mid 70s Sunday afternoon.

The average Twin Cities temperature through the first 30 days of May was four-tenths of a degree below normal:

May rainfall is running 1.60 inches above normal.

A shift in the upper-air pattern will allow summery temps to spread across much of Minnesota and western Wisconsin on Monday, with many highs in the 80s:

There will be some 90s in southwestern and south-central Minnesota, with 70s in northeastern Minnesota.

The warmth lingers throughout the coming week. Twin Cities metro area highs are projected to reach the upper 80s to around 90 Tuesday and Wednesday, followed by mid 80s Thursday and Friday.

Summery warmth may continue next weekend into the start of the following week. The NWS Climate Prediction Center shows a tendency for above-normal temps in Minnesota and Wisconsin from June 5 through June 9:

Parts of southwestern Minnesota could see a passing shower on Sunday but most of Minnesota and western Wisconsin will have a dry day.

In most areas, the next chance of rain will hold off until late Sunday night into Monday morning. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s North American Mesoscale (NAM) forecast model shows this potential rain pattern on Monday:

There will probably be some embedded thunderstorms at times.
