Cristobal on the march

Our primary weather threat for Tuesday will come from the south. The remnants of former Tropical Storm Cristobal, loaded with subtropical moisture, continue their way northward up the Mississippi River Valley.

Large areas of rain with embedded thunderstorms are expected to reach into at least southeastern Minnesota Tuesday afternoon as the system makes a bit of a turn to the right to soak much of Wisconsin.

Flooding possible

Heavy rain is likely. Flash flood watches have been posted for south-central, southeastern and much of east-central Minnesota, including the Twin Cities, as well as western Wisconsin from Tuesday afternoon through Wednesday morning.

Rainfalls of 2 to 4 inches are possible mainly in southeastern Minnesota and west-central Wisconsin. Some localized amounts in excess of 4 inches might be reported.

Flash flooding will be most likely where the heavy rain falls on poorly drained and urban areas.

The Twin Cities will have showers and thunderstorms likely Tuesday afternoon and evening with a high temperature near 84. Dew points will increase into the muggy range again.

Severe?

Severe storms are possible but not very likely late on Tuesday. Minneapolis is right on the northwestern edge of the marginal risk area for severe weather under the current outlook.

Fall-like Wednesday

A blustery northwest wind will really cool our Wednesday. High temperatures will be in the 60s to some low 70s for most of Minnesota while parts of the northeast around Ely likely will have to settle for upper 50s.
