Windy and much cooler Wednesday; pleasant summer days ahead

Heavy rain fell on Tuesday with reports of 1 to 3 inches widespread from southeastern Minnesota to the eastern metro area and much of west-central and northwestern Wisconsin. Flash flooding was reported in some spots including the Chippewa Falls, Wis., area.

The remnants of former Tropical Storm Cristobal are heading northeast across Lake Superior early Wednesday morning. Heavy rain continues to fall around Grand Marais on the North Shore.

Scattered showers continue around the state and will be hit-and-miss during the morning hours.

Look for a few more showers to pop up Wednesday afternoon as the atmosphere destabilizes a bit.

Cool and windy Wednesday

Otherwise, Wednesday will be windy and much cooler with drier dew points. High temperatures will be in the 60s for most of Minnesota while parts of the south should see low 70s in areas where the sun breaks out, such as around Luverne in the southwest. The Twin Cities should struggle to reach 70 with a brisk northwest wind of 15 to 30 mph.

Pleasant days beginning Thursday

Thursday will bring comfortable temperatures and maybe just a few isolated showers. Look for high temperatures in the 60s in the north and 70s across central and southern Minnesota. The Twin Cities should reach about 78.

Friday and the weekend still look like they will be lovely with mostly dry and sunny conditions.
