Blizzard warnings in Northwest Minnesota, winter weather advisories across the state

Sunday afternoon wind gusts of more than 40 mph were reported in several locations in  western, southern and central Minnesota.  Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport reported a 46 mph wind gust.

Our winds won’t be as strong on Monday, but we’ll still see afternoon gusts in the 25 mph to 35 mph range:

Plotted values are in knots, with 26 knots equal to about 30 mph.

Monday highs will reach the 90s in southwestern and west-central Minnesota, with a lot of 80s elsewhere in Minnesota:

There’ll be a few 70s in southeastern Minnesota and northeastern Minnesota, plus western Wisconsin. Some locations up along the North Shore of Lake Superior will only reach the 60s.

Dew points begin to creep up on Monday, reaching the sticky 60s in parts of the west:

Back to high temperatures, the 90s expand to cover much of Minnesota on Tuesday:

Southeastern Minnesota and parts of the northeast will top out in the 80s.

Central and southern Minnesota plus parts of western Wisconsin will have highs in the 90s Wednesday afternoon:

Twin Cities metro area highs are projected to reach the lower 90s on Tuesday, followed by mid 90s on Wednesday. Dew points will be in the sticky 60s both days, so it’ll feel real summery.

Metro area highs are expected to retreat to the mid 80s on Thursday, followed by lower 80s Friday.

, we have an average of 2 days in June with a high temperature of 90 degrees or warmer. We’ve already tallied 3 days this June with highs in the 90s at Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport. We’ll probably add to that total this Tuesday and Wednesday. Last June, the Twin Cities had only one day with a high in the 90s.

Rain chances late Sunday night into early Monday

Scattered showers and thunderstorms could develop in western Minnesota late Sunday night, then spread eastward into Monday morning.

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s North American Mesoscale (NAM) forecast model shows the potential rain pattern Sunday evening through Monday afternoon:

Pay more attention to the scattered rain pattern than to the exact location of the rain.
