After another hot and breezy day Wednesday, a cold front starts to make its way across Minnesota, bringing showers and storms along with a break from the heat.
Wednesday’s forecast
Wednesday started off warm again, with most of the state seeing morning temperatures in the 60s and 70s. The recent warm and breezy winds out of the south continue, gusting to 20 and 30 mph at times.
This puts the state 10 to 20 degrees above average again, with most of Minnesota seeing highs in the 90s.

This follows the hot weather Tuesday that was so warm it set records in a couple spots.

Wednesday also stays humid, especially for western Minnesota, and the entire state sees sunny skies.
By evening, the pattern begins to change, and storms move into northwestern Minnesota. It is likely there could be severe storms which bring large hail and/or high winds.

The storms may move slowly enough to cause heavy rain and localized flooding.
Changing weather Thursday
The storms that move into northwestern Minnesota Wednesday evening are ahead of a cold front that moves across the state Thursday.

The front brings more showers and storms into Minnesota overnight Wednesday and through the day Thursday. Only isolated strong storms are possible, but slowly moving storms will likely mean areas of heavy rain and more chances for localized flooding.
For the Twin Cities, the best chance for rain comes Thursday evening.

The front also cools northern and western parts of the state into the 70s Thursday, then drops temperatures for the rest of the state by Friday. Here is that temperature trend for the Twin Cities:

Extended forecast
While Thursday brings the highest chance for statewide storms, the weather pattern remains active through the weekend.
Friday stays dry for most of the state, then there will be enough instability over the weekend for occasional showers and storms, but there will also be plenty of dry breaks for outdoor activities.
Seasonable temperatures continue through the weekend, with highs in the 70s and 80s.
