Wintry mix spreads across Minnesota

Our average Twin Cities high temperature is 81 degrees on June 21. Many spots in the Twin Cities metro area will reach the mid 80s Sunday afternoon. Much of Minnesota and western Wisconsin will have Sunday highs in the 80s, with some 70s in far northern Minnesota:

Sunday afternoon dew points will be in the 50s north with some lower 60s in the south:

Those are fairly typical late-June dew points…summery but not steamy.

Parts of western Minnesota will see scattered thunderstorms Saturday evening and Saturday night.

Sunday morning looks dry in most areas, then some scattered showers and thunderstorms will develop Sunday afternoon and evening. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s North American Mesoscale (NAM) forecast model shows the potential rain pattern Sunday afternoon and Sunday evening:

In the Twin Cities metro area, our best chance of thunderstorms will be late Sunday afternoon and Sunday evening.  You can hear updated weather information on the MPR

The NWS Storm Prediction Center shows a slight risk of severe weather in southern Minnesota Sunday and Sunday night, meaning that scattered severe thunderstorms are possible:

The dark-green shaded area (which includes the Twin Cities metro area) has a marginal risk of severe weather Sunday and Sunday night, which means that an isolated severe thunderstorm is possible.  Check forecast updates if you have outdoor plans late Sunday afternoon or Sunday evening.

We’ll start the week with cool temps, then it’ll be a bit warmer toward the end of the week. Twin Cities metro area highs are projected to each the upper 70s Monday, followed by mid 70s Tuesday and  upper 70s Wednesday. We’re looking at highs in the lower 80s on Thursday and Friday.

We aren’t seeing any chilly temps during the final days of June. The NWS Climate Prediction Center shows a tendency for above-average temps in Minnesota and western Wisconsin from June 26 through June 30:
