Hot and occasionally stormy for the holiday weekend

Friday morning starts with widespread fog

Heat and high humidity continue through the holiday weekend, while chances for showers and storms increase over the next few days.

Thursday evening and overnight

Due to heat index values in the mid-90s, the Twin Cities area is under a Heat Advisory until 8 p.m. Thursday evening. Then, skies remain mostly clear overnight, dropping temperatures into the 60s and 70s.

This is also about where the dew point temperatures have been, meaning fog will develop again for much of the state by Friday morning.

With the sun coming up so early this time of year, the fog will burn-off quickly Friday morning.

Friday through the weekend

Friday will be mostly sunny, with only a very spotty chance for showers and storms, particularly in the northwestern corner of the state.

Saturday and Sunday bring more scattered showers and storms, especially for northern Minnesota Saturday and statewide Sunday.

Humidity also stays high, which means more Heat Advisories are likely to be issues for heat indices near 100 at times.

Heat and humidity are likely to be a concern next week also, and possibly the week after as well.  Look at this Hazardous Temperature forecast that starts July 10:

Even over a week from now, Minnesota is in the moderate risk category to be dealing with excessive heat. July is starting off hot!
