Wintry mix spreads across Minnesota

Northwestern Minnesota will have the best chance of thunderstorms this Fourth of July, and some scattered storms may spread into north-central Minnesota this afternoon and into northeastern Minnesota by evening. 

Elsewhere in Minnesota (including the Twin Cities metro area) plus western Wisconsin, there is a possibility of an isolated shower and thunderstorm late this afternoon and this evening.

Parts of northwestern Minnesota are already seeing thunderstorms Saturday morning, and flooding rains are possible in Kittson and Marshall counties:

The NWS Storm Prediction Center shows a slight risk of severe thunderstorms in northwestern Minnesota this Saturday and Saturday night. Here are details, from the NWS Grand Forks office:

Slight risk means that scattered severe thunderstorms are possible.

Our average July 4th high temp is 83 degrees in the Twin Cities metro area. We’ll probably top out in the lower 90s today. Saturday highs will reach the lower 90s in much of Minnesota and western Wisconsin:

Northwestern Minnesota and areas close to Lake Superior will have highs in the 80s.
