Weekend forecast: Steamy Saturday; temps, humidity retreat on Sunday

I’ll get to the weekend forecast shortly, but I first want to mention Thursday thunderstorm chances.

The best chance of scattered thunderstorms Thursday and Thursday evening will be in northern and central Minnesota plus northwestern Wisconsin. An isolated thunderstorm is possible in the Twin Cities metro area and points to our south and east.

The National Weather Service Storm Prediction Center shows a slight risk of severe weather (shaded yellow) in northeastern Minnesota, which means than scattered severe thunderstorms are possible:

There’s a marginal risk (shaded dark-green) of severe weather Thursday and Thursday night for parts of north-central and central Minnesota plus the northern part of the Twin Cities metro area into northwestern Wisconsin. Marginal risk means that an isolated severe thunderstorm is possible.

The weekend

Thunderstorms are expected to move across much of Minnesota and western Wisconsin Friday night, and they may linger in eastern Minnesota and western Wisconsin early Saturday morning.

Scattered thunderstorms will also be possible Saturday evening and overnight Saturday night. We’ll have many rain-free hours this weekend.

Saturday highs reach the 90s in about the southern half of Minnesota plus western Wisconsin:

Dew points will be in the steamy 70s in central and southern Minnesota plus western Wisconsin:

The heat index will reach more than 100 degrees in the hottest and most humid areas Saturday afternoon.

Sunday highs will be mainly in the 80s, with some 70s in far northern Minnesota:

Sunday dew points drop back into the 60s, with some 50s to the north:
