Friday will be hot, humid, and breezy, with strong storms moving into the state by the end of the day.
Friday’s forecast
A pattern shift Thursday that started bringing in warmer, more humid air from the south is already causing morning temperatures to be warmer Friday than the past few days. Most of the state is starting in the 60s and 70s, with only the Arrowhead starting off in the 50s. Winds out of the south increase Friday, with most of the state seeing gusts over 20 mph at times.
That strong southerly flow increases the heat and humidity, through the day, pushing highs for most of the state near or above 90. With dew points in the 70s, the combination of heat and humidity will put the heat index past 100 for parts of the state.
All of western Minnesota and portions of southern Minnesota, including the Twin Cities, are under either Heat Advisories or Excessive Heat Warnings from Friday afternoon through Saturday evening.
While much of the state stays mostly sunny Friday, northern Minnesota can expect a mix of clouds and sunshine and a slight chance for isolated showers and storms. By Friday evening, a more extensive area of showers and storms moves in to the northwestern corner of the state, bringing a risk for severe weather.
Saturday remains hot, with widespread chances for showers and storms. That extended forecast will be updated around 9 a.m.
