Rain clears, replaced by cooler weather

Heavy rain and flooding concerns continue for parts of Minnesota on Sunday.  Then cooler and drier air spreads across the state and stays in place through at least mid-week.

Areas of heavy rain Sunday

The storm system that funneled the heat, humidity, and storms back across the state the past few days is slowly moving out, and the cold front associated with it has already pushed through northeastern Minnesota as of Sunday morning.  The front continues across Minnesota through the rest of Sunday, but ahead of it there are still scattered showers and storms.

Because some of the rain has been so heavy, especially for south central and southeastern Minnesota (areas near Mankato have reported over 8 inches of rain), flash flooding has been a concern.

Rain chances for the Twin Cities stay very spotty into the afternoon and end by evening.  The southeastern edge of Minnesota could still see slightly more widespread rain into the afternoon, and possibly isolated severe storms, before the precipitation finally clears out late Sunday.

Because of the front moving through the state, temperatures Sunday will vary from 70s and lower humidity in northeastern Minnesota, to 80s and still humid southeast.  

New airmass

The airmass behind the cold front will bring a noticeable weather change to all of Minnesota by Monday.  Cooler, drier air spreads across the state, lowering temperatures and humidity.  Overnight temperatures are likely to remain mostly in the 50s and 60s for the rest of the week. 
Daytime highs will be in the 70s and 80s Monday and Tuesday, then more widespread 80s beginning Wednesday.

Currently no major storms are on the horizon for the week, although enough instability comes back by Friday and Saturday for chances of shower and storms, especially in the afternoon.
