Goodbye sultry air; lovely week underway

The sweaty, tropical air of Friday through Sunday is headed east across the Great Lakes this Monday morning. Replacing it is a refreshing blob of much drier Canadian air that will hang around all week. Temperatures will be about seasonal each day. These will be good days to take your dog for an extra walk.

Say goodbye to mugginess

What you will really notice is that dew points that rose into the tropical low and mid-70s across much of central and southern Minnesota have been replaced by comfortable 50s to low 60s.

High temperatures on Monday will range from the mid-70s in northeastern Minnesota to the low 80s in southern parts of the state. Scattered showers are likely in northeastern Minnesota Monday afternoon.

The Twin Cities should see a high around 82 on Monday with much-improved dew points in the upper 50s to very low 60s. Wind from the northwest at 10-20 mph will be a bit gusty in the afternoon.

Beautiful all week

Temperatures statewide should do just a very slow climb as we go through the week. Humidities will remain comfortable for July.

Although the Canadian air mass is a high pressure system that will tend to block storms from coming our way for most of the week, a scattering of showers or thunderstorms is likely Tuesday afternoon in southeastern Minnesota as a storm system slides by well to our south.

Weekend question mark

Long-range forecast models are hinting that scattered showers and thunderstorms are possible Saturday and maybe Sunday. But the generating weather system is likely to be weak so the outlook is quite uncertain.

Warm August-September-October?

The three-month outlook of temperature probability for August through October is calling for a good chance that just about all of the 48 states and Alaska might have higher-than-normal average temperatures. Cape Cod apparently might be an outlier and remain close to average, probably because it sticks out into the Atlantic Ocean and has its temperature controlled largely by the ocean temperature.
