Another pleasant day Tuesday; warm and quite humid late in the week
Monday has certainly been a cool day for early August—sort of a practice day for September. Clouds building on a northeast flow blocked enough sunshine to minimize the solar heating. Most afternoon temperatures peaked in the upper 60s to low 70s.
Almost a repeat on Tuesday
Clearing skies and light winds Monday night will allow temperatures to drop 5 to 10 degrees below seasonal normals toward sunrise. Watch for the full moon overnight.
Tuesday afternoon will see a partly cloudy sky of fair weather cumulus clouds. High temperatures will be a few degrees warmer than on Monday, mainly in the 70s with some 60s likely near Lake Superior around Grand Marais and Two Harbors in northern Minnesota. The Twin Cities should warm into the upper 70s.
Scattered midweek showers
A low pressure system from the Dakotas will spread a scattering of showers and some thunderstorms into western Minnesota Tuesday night and then eastward across much of the state on Wednesday. Some showers might linger through Wednesday night. The Arrowhead might remain dry.

Rainfall amounts are not expected to amount to a great deal. The 72-hour precipitation forecast through 7 p.m. on Thursday is for generally less than a quarter of an inch of rain for most of Minnesota. Between a quarter and a half inch might fall in west central and southwestern Minnesota.
Isaias bringing a soaking and flooding to the east
Meanwhile, note the long stripe of heavy rain from the Carolinas to eastern Canada thanks to Tropical Storm Isaias.
Isaias is forecast to intensify on Monday before making landfall Monday night as a hurricane. Hurricane Warnings have been posted for parts of the coastal Carolinas including Myrtle Beach, S.C., and Wilmington, N.C. While most tropical storms weaken considerably after they move inland, upper level support will maintain much of Isaias’ strong circulation as it tracks northeast. Strong winds and very heavy rain are likely from the Carolinas up through the mid-Atlantic States to New England and into Quebec Province of Canada. Flooding is likely.
Toasty and much more humid later in the week
Heat and humidity will begin to build on Friday and really kick in for the weekend. Saturday and Sunday should warm into the 80s for most of Minnesota. The southwest corner of the state might reach the low 90s.
Dew points are likely to climb into the tropical low 70s for the Twin Cities and southern Minnesota on Saturday and Sunday.
