Heavy rain fell overnight Friday night from around Olivia to Albert Lea. The National Weather Service has this summary of radar rainfall estimates:
Dual pol estimates put rainfall totals from 3 to 6+ inches down from Fairfax down through New Ulm and Mankato into the Mapleton area in southeast Blue Earth county.
At 10 a.m. Saturday, there were a few thunderstorms from Little Falls and Brainerd eastward toward McGregor and Onamia. Those thunderstorms are expected to spread to the east and southeast later Saturday morning into early afternoon. After those storms move on, an isolated shower or thunderstorm is possible at any location in Minnesota/western Wisconsin the remainder of this afternoon and this evening, but there will be also be many rain-free hours at any one spot.

Saturday highs will be in the 80s across most of Minnesota and western Wisconsin. There will be some 70s in northeastern Minnesota and a few spots in southwestern Minnesota could touch 90. Twin Cities metro area highs are expected to be mainly in the mid 80s, which is warmer than our average August 22 high of 80 degrees.
Dew points will be in the upper 60s to lower 70s in most of Minnesota and western Wisconsin, so it’ll feel steamy this afternoon/early evening.
Sunday highs range from 70s in northeastern Minnesota to the lower 90s in southwestern Minnesota:
It still looks like the metro area will reach the upper 80s on Sunday.
Sunday afternoon dew points will be mainly in the upper 60s:
A few spots may see Sunday dew points in the lower 70s at times.
The week ahead
Twin Cities metro area highs are projected to reach the upper 80s Monday through Wednesday, followed by lower 80s Thursday and Friday. The best chance of thunderstorms in the metro area appears to be Wednesday night and Thursday…check for updates on that.
Tropical storm update
Meteorologists are tracking two tropical storms that could make landfall along the Gulf Coast this coming week, possibly as hurricanes.
According to the NWS National Hurricane Center, Tropical Storm Marco was centered 105 miles east/northeast of Cozumel, Mexico Saturday morning. Marco is forecast to become a hurricane shortly, and Marco could make landfall on Tuesday along the Texas or Louisiana coast as either a hurricane or tropical storm:
The cone surrounding the forecast track indicates the uncertainty of the forecast track of Marco’s center.
Tropical Storm Laura was 20 miles southwest of Ponce, Puerto Rico Saturday morning. Laura is forecast to become a hurricane before making landfall on Wednesday somewhere along the Louisiana coast:
