Heat continues to be a concern in southern Minnesota through Wednesday, while a couple rounds of storms could impact the state through the end of the week.
Tuesday’s forecast
A lingering front in southern Minnesota is causing a big temperature contrast across Minnesota again Tuesday. Morning temperatures ranged from 50s north to 60s and 70s south. Afternoon temperatures will be near 80 north and mid-80s to low 90s south, but dew points and humidity will be much higher in southern Minnesota again, leading to a high heat index.
A heat advisory is in effect from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. for temperatures that will feel like 95 to 100 degrees.
Much of the state sees mostly sunny skies Tuesday, with just a few more clouds north.

Active weather continues
By Tuesday evening, a disturbance starts moving across the northern edge of the state that could bring showers and storms through northern and central Minnesota overnight, along with an isolated risk for severe weather.
This could bring a couple showers or storms as far south as the Twin Cities overnight, then activity remains possible for central and northern Minnesota through Wednesday afternoon.
Already by Thursday into Friday, another round of showers and storms is expected, and it brings a risk of severe weather, especially to southern Minnesota (the area highlighted No. 1 has an isolated risk and No. 2 is more likely to see scattered severe weather).
Heavy rain is also concern, especially for southeastern Minnesota late Thursday night into early Friday.
Exact rain totals are still uncertain, but the precipitation could even be enhanced by moisture from Hurricane Laura. We’ll monitor closely for any impacts that make it to Minnesota.
Temperatures finally cool
Wednesday brings another day where northern Minnesota stays near 80 for highs, while parts of central and southern Minnesota soar into the 90s, with a heat index approaching 100 in some spots.
That heat starts to break some on Thursday, with temperatures returning closer to average by Friday. Over the weekend, most of the state is back to highs in the 70s. Here’s that extended forecast for the Twin Cities:
