Wednesday brings one last day of hot weather before temperatures return closer to average. Meanwhile, a couple rounds of storms bring back-to-back severe weather concerns.
Wednesday’s forecast
The recent hot weather had all of Minnesota starting warm again Wednesday, with most of the state in the 60s and 70s. Afternoon temperatures will also be higher than Tuesday for most of Minnesota, with 90s for southern and central Minnesota and 80s north.
Because of the heat combined with humidity, a heat advisory is in effect for the southeastern corner of the state, including Rochester, from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. for temperatures that will feel like 95 to 105 degrees.
The hot weather is a result of a lingering warm front in our area, but later Wednesday a cold front starts moving across Minnesota. There are already a few showers and storms in northern Minnesota as of 9 a.m. and spotty activity is possible through the day for central and northern Minnesota.

More widespread activity is likely Wednesday evening, including the risk for severe weather, especially in central Minnesota.
For the Twin Cities, the most likely timing for any storms is late Wednesday night.
Another round of storms
The rain from Wednesday night is expected to move out by early Thursday morning, leaving the rest of the morning dry. Already by afternoon, another system starts bringing rain into western, then southern Minnesota, and the entire state sees rain chances by Thursday night.
There is also a severe risk with that storm, especially Thursday evening and night in southern Minnesota.
The southeastern corner of the state could also see heavy rain, with widespread totals over an inch possible. Wet weather clears out starting in western Minnesota Friday morning, and through eastern Minnesota by late Friday afternoon.
We finish out the week with dry and sunny weather Saturday.
Seasonable temperatures return
Behind Wednesday’s cold front, the heat starts to break some on Thursday, with 70s north and 80s in southern Minnesota. Then the second system returns temperatures closer to average by Friday. Over the weekend, most of the state see highs in the 70s, with a few 60s possible along the northern border. Here is that extended forecast for the Twin Cities:
