The holiday weekend starts warm, then turns cooler

Temperatures rebound the rest of the week after a colder and windy Thursday.  Then a much bigger temperature plunge happens next week.

Thursday’s Forecast

A cold front that moved across Minnesota overnight left high winds in its wake.  The entire state is seeing windy conditions, including gusts over 30 and 40 mph, and the Arrowhead is under a Wind Advisory until 1 p.m. for gusts that have exceeded 50 mph at times.

Winds slowly diminish through the day, but even into the afternoon and evening, conditions stay breezy. 
Temperatures started seasonable Thursday, with 50s for most of the state and 60s south, but by afternoon it will be noticeably cooler than average. Highs will be in the 60s for most of the state, with a few 50s possible along the northern border, and low 70s in southern Minnesota. 

Much of the state sees mostly sunny skies, but behind the cold front there are a few lingering showers in the Arrowhead Thursday morning, and clouds in northern Minnesota will take until the afternoon to clear out.

More changes ahead

Temperatures warm again Friday and Saturday.  Much of the state gets back into the 70s Friday, except a few 60s still linger in northern Minnesota.  Saturday, even most of northern Minnesota is back in the 70s, and a few 80s are possible south. Combined with mostly sunny skies, the week finishes on a comfortable note.

Another storm moves through late Saturday into Sunday, bringing more scattered chances for showers and storm across the state, especially for southern Minnesota where a few strong storms are possible. 

Behind that system, cooler air starts to spread across the state.  The weather also remains more active early next week, with a couple disturbances bringing rain chances.  That pattern reinforces cooler air, plunging Minnesota into the 50 and 60s for highs by early to mid-week, and then the rest of the week remains colder than average.
