Weekend forecast: Mostly dry during the daylight hours; Labor Day rain chance

There’s an autumnal feel to our weather Thursday. It’s not just the cooler temperatures, we also have gusty winds. Our temps will rebound a bit this weekend.

Labor Day weekend temps

Our average Twin Cities high temperature is 76 degrees on Sept. 6. The Twin Cities metro area will probably reach the upper 70s this Saturday, with a shot at 80. Most of Minnesota and western Wisconsin will have Saturday highs in the 70s, with 80s in parts of southwestern and south-central Minnesota:

There’ll be a few 60s in northeastern Minnesota.

Saturday dew points will be in the comfortable upper 40s and lower 50s:

Sunday highs will range from the 60s in the far north to 80s in far southern Minnesota:

We’ll probably reach the upper 70s in the Twin Cities.

Sunday dew points will creep up a bit, into the upper 50s. A few spots in the southeast will see somewhat sticky dew points in the lower 60s:

Our Labor Day highs will be in the 60s in about the northern half of Minnesota, with 70s to the south:

Rain chances

The daylight hours of Saturday and Sunday look dry in most of Minnesota and western Wisconsin.

Showers and thunderstorms are expected to move across portions of southern Minnesota and southwestern Wisconsin overnight Saturday night. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s North American Mesoscale (NAM) forecast model shows the potential rain pattern Saturday evening through Sunday afternoon:

Parts of far southern Minnesota may even see some severe weather overnight Saturday night.

Computer models show that Minnesota and western Wisconsin will probably have showers at times on Labor Day, with a thunderstorm also possible.
