Pleasant Sunday with isolated showers in the northeast; August-like Monday and Tuesday

Almost a week of unseasonably cool weather is giving way to a warming trend. Sunday will bring highs in the 60s across northern Minnesota while about the southern half of the state will warm into the 70s. The Twin Cities should warm into the low 70s with a pleasant September sun breaking out.

Areas of morning fog in central and southern Minnesota will continue to lift and thin as temperatures warm slowly.

Scattered showers

The other weather wrinkle will be a scattering of showers across far northern Minnesota. Weather radar from Duluth is tracking stray showers heading from north central into northeastern Minnesota.

Summer will return, briefly

Temperatures will warm above normal on Monday and especially on Tuesday. Afternoon highs are likely to reach into the 80s for the Twin Cities area and much of southern Minnesota on Tuesday as a broad area of dry high pressure dominates our weather map.

The high pressure will move off to the east later this week. Expect cooler-than-normal temperatures again from Thursday through next weekend.

Here is how the upcoming week looks for the Twin Cities area:

Farther out in the future, the 8-14 day temperature probability outlook for Sunday, September 20 through Saturday, September 26 indicates a good chance that the warm temperatures that have been building to our west will spread eastward to Minnesota for much of next week.
