Cooler weather has settled across Minnesota and it remains in place all week. By the end of the week, temperatures turn cold enough for widespread frost and freeze conditions.
Monday’s forecast
The state started off seasonable and even slightly above average Monday, with temperatures in the 40s and a few 50s south. However, temperatures warm little through the day thanks to northwest winds drawing in cooler air.
Highs in the 50s will be about 5 to 10 degrees below average for most locations across the state.
Although not as windy as Sunday, winds turn gusty again Monday, and especially western and southern Minnesota could see wind gusts over 20 and 30 mph.

A weather disturbance in Canada will dive south across Minnesota Monday, bringing spotty showers with it, especially in the afternoon hours during what little daytime heating the state sees. This will also keep the state under mostly cloudy skies.
Any precipitation will remain light, with most places seeing less than one-tenth of an inch.
Limited rainfall
The trend of lighter precipitation continues all week, despite more disturbances and another major cold front moving through.
Most days bring at least parts of Minnesota a chance of sprinkles or showers, especially northern Minnesota on Tuesday and Wednesday, but limited moisture keeps rainfall totals low.
Through Saturday, most of the state can expect a tenth of an inch or less, with only slightly higher totals in northern Minnesota.
This means almost the entire state will end September in a large rain deficit, and the first week of October also starts much drier than average.
Cooler temperatures
After the highs in the 50s Monday, some spots will briefly rebound into the 60s Tuesday and Wednesday. Behind another cold front, the second half of the week turns chillier, with highs only in the 40s and 50s.

That cold front will make it windier again Wednesday and Thursday. It also sends lows by the end of the week plunging into the 20s and 30s, so frost and freeze conditions are likely, especially Friday and Saturday mornings.
