A cold front that moved through Minnesota Monday morning is returning the state to more seasonable temperatures after recent warm weather. A second front midweek turns the state even colder.
Monday’s forecast
A cold front that moved across the state has moved east of Minnesota as of Monday morning. Behind it, rain has already cleared west and will continue to move out of eastern Minnesota through the rest of the morning.
Minnesota has been very dry since September, so this was a needed, soaking rain in many places, with many places seeing over an inch of rain, and a few locations with over 2 inches.
Behind the storm, winds stay breezy Monday, but skies clear, with most of the state seeing sunshine by afternoon.

Monday started in the 40s and low 50s, which is mild for October, then highs will be in the 50s north and 60s south.
This is seasonable for this time of year, but lower than recent temperatures.
Colder weather arrives
Tuesday will similarly start slightly milder than average, with most of the state in the 40s, then seasonable highs in the 50s and lower 60s again.
It also stays breezy on Tuesday, and northern Minnesota could see a few light rain showers in the morning.
Wednesday becomes more active, with a storm expected to track directly across Minnesota. This will bring rain across the state, especially for northern Minnesota, where precipitation totals currently look like they should be around a half-inch.
This also keeps conditions breezier through Thursday. But the biggest impact from Wednesday’s storm is going to be the much colder air it ushers in. Highs already start to drop for northern Minnesota Wednesday, and by Thursday, most of Minnesota only makes it into the 40s.
Temperatures then remain 10 to 20 degrees below average for the rest of the week. Here is the Twin Cities forecast through Friday showing that drop:
Overnight temperatures will also be noticeably lower, with the entire state seeing lows at or below freezing by the end of the week.
