More snow likely Thursday night

After colder weather and snow return Thursday, Minnesota returns to milder and drier weather into the start of November.

Thursday’s forecast

Behind a cold front that moved through on Wednesday, temperatures across Minnesota have turned colder again. Morning temperatures ranged from teens north to a few 30s south. With northerly winds still drawing in colder air, temperatures only rise to highs in the 30s Thursday, which especially for southern Minnesota, is only a warmup of a few degrees from morning lows.

There will be a mix of clouds and sunshine through the day, with more clouds moving in by evening as a weather disturbance starts making its way into the state. That disturbance also brings very light snow across a wide section of central Minnesota from Thursday evening through the overnight. 

Most places will see less than an inch of snow.

Extended forecast

The light snow moves out by early Friday, returning more sunshine across most of the state, especially Friday afternoon. Then a cold front that moves across Minnesota Saturday not only brings gusty winds Saturday and Sunday, but another chance for a wintry mix of precipitation in northern Minnesota Saturday afternoon and evening. 

After that, precipitation chances are limited next week, with most days bringing sunshine.

Temperatures rise only a few degrees Friday, with much of the state in the 30s and a few 40s south. Then by Saturday, almost all of Minnesota finally makes it into the 40s for highs.  Sunday turns chillier again, with 30s behind Saturday’s cold front. Here is that Twin Cities forecast through Sunday:

Fortunately, temperatures rebound quickly after the cold on Sunday. From Monday through the rest of next week, highs stay in the 40s and 50s, with a few 60s possible. This returns the state to average temperatures for early November, with some days running above average.
