Weekend warmth as winds pick up

Temps return to normal by Tuesday

This is strange weather for November!

Our average Twin Cities high temperature is 46 degrees this time of year. The metro area will probably top 70 degrees at some point this afternoon. Dew points will be almost summery, in the 50s.

Highs in the 70s are forecast this Saturday for much of central and southern Minnesota plus western Wisconsin. It’ll be breezy, with gusts of 25-35 mph possible.

Windy and warm on Sunday

Plotted values are in knots, with 32 knots equal to around 37 mph and 42 knots equal to 48 mph.

Sunday PM shower chance west

Scattered showers could develop in western Minnesota Sunday afternoon. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s North American Mesoscale (NAM) forecast model shows the potential precipitation pattern Sunday afternoon:

That shower chance spreads into eastern Minnesota and western Wisconsin Sunday evening and Sunday night.

Tuesday snow chances

A rain/snow mix is possible in the Twin Cities metro area Tuesday morning. That mix may change to all snow Tuesday afternoon with snow continuing into Tuesday night. It’s too soon to talk about snow amounts, and one forecast model shows the metro area on the northern edge of the Tuesday p.m. snow band. Check updates.

Cooler temps this coming week

Twin Cities metro area highs are projected to reach the lower 60s Monday, then we’ll see a big cool-down with Tuesday highs in the upper 30s, followed by highs in the upper 30s to around 40 Wednesday through Friday.

What is our latest 70?

The official high temperature at Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport was 75 on Tuesday. That was followed by a high of 74 Wednesday and we hit 75 on Friday. New Twin Cities daily record highs were set on Tuesday and Friday, and we tied our record high on Wednesday.

This very warm week had me wondering how late in the year the Twin Cities can see a high temp in the 70s. A check of Twin Cities weather records shows that our latest high in the 70s was on Nov. 17, 1953, when we topped out at 71.
