The storm that brought rain and falling temperatures Monday brings a second punch to Minnesota Tuesday with areas of heavy snow and ice concerns.
Tuesday’s forecast
In the wake of Monday’s storm, much colder air has returned across Minnesota, with the day starting in the teens and 20s for most of the state, with a few 30s in southeastern Minnesota.
Temperatures only rise into the 20s north and low 30s south all day.
Behind the storm, there is also lingering precipitation in southeastern Minnesota as of 7 a.m. Tuesday morning, which because of the temperatures near freezing, has been a mix of rain, snow and some freezing rain.
Although the precipitation with the storm initially cleared, a disturbance rotating around the weather system, combined with the storm moving into more moisture, brings back an expanding area of snow and some ice through the day Tuesday.

Precipitation will be the most persistent in the afternoon and evening hours before winding down late Tuesday.
A wide swath of the state is likely to see 4 to 6 inches of snow through the day, and ice accumulation could occur in southern Minnesota, including around the Albert Lea and Rochester areas.
Because of this, much of Minnesota is under at least a winter weather advisory, with areas expected to see heavier snow or ice under winter storm and ice storm warnings.
Sunshine returns Wednesday, but the rest of the week remains cold. That extended forecast will be updated around 9 a.m.
