Precipitation chances stay north

Most of Minnesota and western Wisconsin will see a dry weekend. There’s a chance of occasional scattered snow showers in far northern Minnesota overnight Saturday night and Sunday morning.

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s North American Mesoscale (NAM) forecast model shows the potential precipitation pattern from Saturday afternoon through Sunday afternoon:

Notice how the isobars (black lines) are closer together on Sunday compared to Saturday. The atmospheric pressure is equal along any given isobar. When isobars are packed closer together, as they are in the Sunday images, it indicates a greater pressure difference between two points on the map. That’s why stronger winds are in the Sunday forecast.

Twin Cities metro area highs are projected to reach the lower 30s next Monday, followed by mid 30s next Tuesday and Wednesday.

Temps may rebound by Thursday and Friday and on into next weekend. The NWS Climate Prediction Center shows a good chance of above-normal temperatures in Minnesota and western Wisconsin from Dec. 3 through Dec. 7:
