Sunshine Monday, then milder weather

No big storms likely through next week

Despite ending the month on a cooler note, November 2020 will be remembered as a warm month, and December also starts off mild.

Monday’s forecast

Due to mostly clear skies for all but a few parts of eastern Minnesota, temperatures dropped into the teens and single digits by Tuesday morning.

In the Arrowhead, one of the areas seeing lingering clouds, that cloud cover is also bringing a few light flurries just in the morning hours.

Behind the cold front that moved through over the weekend, highs Monday will be even chillier than Sunday despite mostly sunny skies. Highs in the 20s and low 30s are near to slightly below average, except in western Minnesota, where milder temperatures in the 30s will be above average.

This is due to breezy winds from the south helping to warm the western edge of the state in the afternoon. Otherwise, winds have died down significantly since Sunday, so wind chill is not as much of a concern.

November recap

Although the official numbers will come out on Dec. 1, and we’ll update them then, it is already clear that November will go in the records as a warm month.

Most of the state is 4 to 6 degrees above average for the month, thanks in large part to the record heat early in the month where even as far north as International Falls made it into the 70s three days.

December starts off mild

While unlikely to set record warmth like early November did, December is also going to start off with a mild stretch of weather.

The entire state makes it back into the 30s by Tuesday, and those 30s with occasional 40s south continue through the end of the week. This keeps the state consistently 5 to 10 degrees above average, with the mild weather likely to continue next week as well.

Here is that forecast for the Twin Cities this week and the outlook for next week:

Meanwhile, precipitation chances are almost non-existent, with only stray flurries possible.  This is the precipitation forecast through Sunday, showing the dry trend:

So, we head into December mostly sunny and mild.
