We have plenty of snow cover in the Twin Cities metro area right now, thanks to the blizzard on Wednesday. I’ve noticed that grass is peeking through some spots where Wednesday’s snow didn’t stick due to the ferocious winds.
We’re adding a bit to our snow cover today.
Most of Minnesota and western Wisconsin will have periods of snow this Sunday. Accumulations of one inch or less are expected in most areas, but parts of west-central Minnesota could see two inches of snow today. Portions of the central Minnesota and the northwest side of the Twin Cities metro area could end up with a bit more than one inch of snow today.
Our average Twin Cities high temp is 24 degrees on Dec. 27. Metro area highs are expected to reach the mid-20s Sunday afternoon. Highs in the 20s will be common in Minnesota and western Wisconsin this afternoon, with some upper teens in far northern Minnesota.

Monday temps and winds
Monday highs will be mainly in the teens, with some lower 20s in far southern Minnesota:
There could be some single-digit highs in far northern Minnesota.
Monday wind gusts will be in the 14-20 mph range:

Tuesday/Wednesday snowstorm potential
Forecast models show a low pressure system developing in Colorado on Monday, then tracking to the east-northeast Monday night through Wednesday.
The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s North American Mesoscale (NAM) forecast model shows the potential precipitation pattern Tuesday morning through Wednesday morning:
The NAM model forecasts the heaviest snow accumulations from northern Iowa into far southern Wisconsin. That heaviest snow band could clip the far southeastern corner of Minnesota.
The best odds of 4 inches or more of snow from Tuesday into Wednesday will be in the southern half of Minnesota, parts of western and southern Wisconsin and on into Iowa:
There’s still some variation between the various forecast models, so check forecast updates in the next couple of days, especially if you plan to do some driving during that snowy period.
Temperature trends this week
Twin Cities metro area highs are projected to reach the lower 20s Tuesday, followed by mid-20s Wednesday and upper teens on Thursday. We could see a high in the lower 20s on New Year’s Day (Friday).
