Cold winds prevent Minnesota from warming much Friday and also cause frigid wind chills throughout the day.
Friday’s forecast
Behind Thursday’s strong cold front, gusty winds from the northwest continued to draw in colder air all through the overnight.
Friday is starting with temperatures just below zero in northern Minnesota and single digits across the rest of the state, which is actually seasonably cold for early February.
However, temperatures barely rise all day, putting highs mostly in the single digits, with a few low teens south.

Those highs are about 10 to 20 degrees below average.
Winds stay strong through the day, with gusts of 20 to 30 mph, which makes the cold feel even more brutal.
Wind chills much of the day will feel like 10 to 25 below zero.
Skies stay dry and mostly cloudy, although some breaks of sunshine are possible.
The cold air becomes even more extreme over the weekend, when wind chills could exceed minus 40. That extended, arctic forecast will be updated around 9:30 a.m.
