The warmup continues, with the state expected to be another 20 degrees warmer by early next week. Meanwhile, a weekend storm could bring a couple inches of snow to southern Minnesota.
Friday’s weather
With more of Minnesota seeing breaks of clear skies overnight, temperatures were chilly again Friday morning, with negative teens north to single digits south. This was about 10 to 15 degrees below average but still an improvement from the brutal cold of just a few days ago.
There are also areas of fog, especially in central Minnesota that will lift through the morning.
While there have still been a couple areas of isolated flurries Friday morning, that light snow chance will be much more sparse and instead more of the state sees sunshine again Friday.
That sunshine helps highs warm a couple more degrees, ranging from the mid-teens to low 20s.
A thaw next week
Already by Saturday, more of the state makes it into the 20s for highs, then 30s Sunday put the entire state back at or above average. On Monday, over half the state could make it to at least 40.
Here is that forecast for the Twin Cities:
Tuesday could also bring a mix of upper 30s and low 40s, which is 10 to 15 degrees above average. Although it looks like the second half of the week will not be quite as mild, highs continue to be above average with 20s and 30s through the end of February.

Snow Sunday
A storm that will slide well south of Minnesota brings some snow into the state Sunday.
Now that temperatures are turning milder, the atmosphere can hold more moisture again, but the position of the storm keeps totals fairly low. Most of the state can expect less than an inch of snow, including the Twin Cities.
Southern Minnesota is likely to see slightly higher amounts with one to two inches, and a few isolated spots may see up to three inches of snow.
However, the new snow may not stick long due to the warm weather expected early next week.
