Travel concerns linger Tuesday

Behind Monday’s snowstorm, Tuesday is off to a slick start and mostly cloudy skies persist through the day.

Tuesday’s forecast

Although the snowstorm Monday has moved out, widespread low clouds linger Tuesday morning, and the weather remains somewhat unsettled. Because of the cloudy skies, temperatures stayed mild overnight, with most of the state starting in the 20s Tuesday. However, ample low-level moisture is causing a few problems across the state.  In portions of northern Minnesota, light freezing drizzle is making roads slick.

For southern Minnesota, in addition to snowy roads from Monday’s accumulation, there are areas of fog, including freezing fog, that add to travel concerns. The freezing fog and freezing drizzle concerns should end by midmorning as temperatures rise above freezing and the low clouds lift.

We do keep enough moisture in, though, to produce very isolated light snow or sprinkles during the day Tuesday, including for the Twin Cities possibly into Tuesday evening. No significant accumulation is expected. 

Highs across most of the state make it into the upper 30s to low 40s.

Overall, the weather in for the rest of the week stays relatively quiet and turns warmer again. That extended forecast will be updated around 9 a.m.
