A needed rain is spreading across Minnesota Tuesday while temperatures stay mild.
Tuesday’s forecast
A major storm that is centered in Kansas as of 7 a.m. Tuesday is funneling significant moisture in from the Gulf of Mexico and is already starting to bring some light bands of rain into Minnesota.
While most of the morning rain stays light in the morning, the precipitation will become more widespread and consistent by the afternoon as the storm tracks northeast toward Minnesota, likely clipping the southeastern edge of the state early Wednesday.
Through the day Tuesday, southern Minnesota can expect a half inch to an inch of rain, with lower totals north.

Meanwhile, temperatures are above average again Tuesday morning ranging from 20s north where there were fewer clouds overnight to 40s south, where the clouds and precipitation kept temperatures from dropping much.
Most of the state can expect highs in the upper 40s or 50s.
Rain continues into Wednesday, and cooler weather is likely to bring snow to portions of the state.
