Balmy Easter weekend coming

A benign weather pattern will treat us to a weekend that’s great for outdoor activities. High temperatures will run well above normal for early April and winds will be light.

Saturday will bring us highs ranging from around 60 in the northeast around Ely and the Boundary Waters to the low 70s in the southwest. The Twin Cities should have a high around 70, which is about 20 degrees warmer than normal. The air will be dry so the fire danger will persist, but light winds should minimize the risk of wildfires spreading.

May-like Easter Sunday and then Monday

Sunday will be even warmer for most of us with lots of 70s. The Twin Cities should warm to around 75. Exceptions to the continued warmup will be the northwest corner that will actually cool by a few degrees and the North Shore where the wind will be coming in from chilly Lake Superior.

The Twin Cities are likely to see upper 70s on Monday.

Rain and thunderstorms next week

There will be a chance of thunderstorms for Monday and Monday night. Some storms might become strong or even severe.

Then the likelihood of periods of rain will come our way from Tuesday through Thursday as a plodding low pressure system dominates the pattern. A slow soaker will be quite welcome for most of the state.

Turning cooler

The clouds, rain and a cooler airmass arriving will bring us cooler temperatures closer to normal by midweek.
