Breezy, sun-splashed Mother's Day; cool Monday, then temps rebound

Could touch 70 on Friday

Happy Mother’s Day!

Our average May 9 high temp is 68 degrees in the Twin Cities. Parts of the metro area will creep slightly above 60 degrees this afternoon. Mother’s Day highs will be in the lower 60s in much of the southern third of Minnesota and also in parts of west-central Minnesota. There will be mainly 50s elsewhere in Minnesota, with a few 40s in the northeast.

Sprinkle chance?

Far southern Minnesota and parts of northeastern Minnesota and western Wisconsin could see scattered sprinkles later this afternoon and early Sunday evening. The Twin Cities metro area should stay dry.

Temperature trends

Temperatures gradually rebound from Tuesday into Friday. Twin Cities metro area highs are projected to reach the lower 60s Tuesday, followed by mid 60s Wednesday, upper 60s Thursday and around 70 on Friday. By the way, our best chance of showers appears to be late Thursday and also on Friday.

We could see above-normal temps next weekend and into the following week. The NWS Climate Prediction Center shows a tendency for above-normal temps in Minnesota and Wisconsin from May 16 through May 22:
