May warmth makes a comeback

Another frosty start for much of Minnesota Tuesday morning

Following a few light showers Monday morning, the state turns dry again. Ample sunshine finally helps Minnesota get back to seasonably warm weather.

Monday’s forecast

A minor disturbance is bringing a few sprinkles and light rain showers across southern Minnesota Monday morning. This precipitation clears out through the morning with more breaks of sunshine by the afternoon.

Morning temperatures were fairly seasonable, with 30s north and 40s south, although the Arrowhead saw a couple spots start the day in the 20s. Highs stay about 10 degrees below average, with most of the state in the 50s.

By Tuesday, high pressure slides directly over Minnesota, bringing clear skies and light winds. Those conditions make for another frostier morning, with most of the state in the 30s and a few 20s north.

However, those same conditions mean plenty of sunshine during the day and that warms most of the state back into the 60s for highs.

Wednesday warms a couple more degrees, and with most of the state in the mid or upper 60s, that finally puts almost all of the state back near average highs after being below average for the past week.

Highs are then likely to stay in the 60s, with occasional low 70s through the weekend. Next week is also forecast to remain warmer, with 60s, 70s, and possibly the return of a few 80s.

Meanwhile, the influence of the high pressure is forecast to keep Minnesota dry through at least Thursday, then spottier precipitation chances return Friday and through the weekend.

Any rain would be beneficial as May has so far been very dry for the state, but currently, it does not look like the weekend rain chances will include significant rain totals.
