From a frosty morning to 60s Tuesday

High pressure over Minnesota keeps skies clear

Minnesota is starting Tuesday with record-setting cold, but sunshine and light winds help temperatures soar by the afternoon.

Tuesday’s forecast

A broad area of high pressure is sitting directly over Minnesota Tuesday.

It brought clear skies and light to calm winds overnight and that combination allowed temperatures to plummet. Although some of southern Minnesota clung to the 30s, most of the state started in the 20s, including reports as far south as Worthington and Albert Lea.
Northern Minnesota even saw a few teens.

This made for a frosty start for much of the state, and a few areas set cold-weather records, such as International Falls tying a record at 21.

However, the same light winds and clear skies let temperatures surge by the afternoon.  Almost the entire state will make it into the 60s for highs under plentiful sunshine.

Dry and sunny weather continues the next couple days, then rain chances return by the weekend. That extended forecast will be updated around 9 a.m.
