Occasional showers/isolated t-storm possible today; cool temps

A three-day holiday weekend in spring has to include a mention of showers.

Many parts of Minnesota and western Wisconsin will have some showers at times today. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s North American Mesoscale (NAM) forecast model shows the potential rain pattern for Sunday and Sunday evening:

NOAA’s High Resolution Rapid-Refresh (HRRR) forecast model shows a similar rain pattern this Sunday and Sunday evening:

Most areas will have many dry hours today too. Some scattered thunderstorms could pop up in Minnesota and western Wisconsin Sunday afternoon and Sunday evening. The NWS Storm Prediction Center shows a marginal risk (shaded dark green) of severe weather Sunday afternoon and evening in much of northern and central Minnesota:

Marginal risk means that an isolated severe thunderstorm is possible.

Temperatures and wind gusts

Sunday highs will be slightly above 70 degrees in roughly the western half of Minnesota, with mainly 60s elsewhere:

There’ll be some 50s near Lake Superior.

Sunday afternoon wind gusts will be mainly in the 15-20 mph range:

Plotted gusts are in knots, with 16 knots equal to 18.4 mph. Higher gusts can be expected near any t-storms that develop this afternoon/evening.
