Wintry mix spreads across Minnesota

Scattered showers and thunderstorms will linger into Sunday evening in portions of Minnesota and western Wisconsin.

The NWS Storm Prediction Center shows a marginal risk (shaded dark green) of severe weather this Sunday evening and Sunday night in much of northern Minnesota and portions of central Minnesota:

The southern edge of the marginal risk area includes northern Wright County and  northwestern Anoka County into northern Chisago County of Minnesota. Marginal risk means that an isolated severe thunderstorm is possible. The 

 updates their severe weather outlook every few hours.

Memorial Day highs reach the 70s in most locations:

There’ll be some 60s in northeastern Minnesota.

Monday afternoon wind gusts are forecast to be in the 10-18 mph range in most areas:

Plotted gusts are in knots, with 12 knots equal to 14 mph.

Most of Memorial Day will be dry. There’s a chance of a shower or an isolated thunderstorm late Monday afternoon and Monday evening in eastern Minnesota and western Wisconsin.

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s North American Mesoscale (NAM) forecast model shows the potential rain pattern for Monday afternoon and evening:

Twin Cities metro area highs are projected to reach the upper 70s Tuesday and Wednesday, followed by mid 80s Thursday and upper 80s on Friday. Our dew points will also rise by Thursday and Friday. The metro area could see highs around 90 degrees next weekend, with summery dew points.

Warmer than normal temps could stick with us the following week. The NWS Climate Prediction Center shows a strong tendency for above-normal temps in Minnesota and Wisconsin from June 7 through June 13:

I guess the warm temps are appropriate; meteorological summer begins June 1.
