Wintry mix spreads across Minnesota

Our Juneteenth 2021 weather will be gorgeous. 

Most areas will have a sun-splashed day. Highs are expected to reach the 80s in central and southern Minnesota plus much of western Wisconsin. The northern third of Minnesota will see mainly 70s, but a few spots up along the North Shore of Lake Superior could see highs in the 60s. Dew points will be in the comfortable 40s and lower 50s.

Sunday highs will be mainly in the 60s to the north, with 70s south:

A few spots in far southern Minnesota could top 80.

Sunday dew points will be in the sticky 60s from the Twin Cities metro area into southern Minnesota and southwestern Wisconsin:

Scattered showers and an isolated thunderstorm could move into parts of far western Minnesota after sunset this Saturday.  Rain chances spread eastward overnight Saturday night.

Periods of rain are likely in Minnesota and western Wisconsin on Sunday, with some embedded t-storms at times. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s North American Mesoscale (NAM) forecast model shows the potential rain pattern Saturday evening through Sunday evening:

NOAA’s High Resolution Rapid-Refresh (HRRR) model shows a similar rain pattern, with slightly different timing:

A few strong or severe thunderstorms are possible on Sunday. The National Weather Service Storm Prediction Center shows a marginal risk of severe weather in portions of southern Minnesota, the Twin Cities metro area, and southwestern and west-central Wisconsin Sunday and Sunday night.

Monday will be chilly, with highs in the 60s across much of Minnesota and western Wisconsin. The Twin Cities metro area could touch 70 degrees Monday afternoon, followed by highs in the upper 70s Tuesday and mid 80s on Wednesday. We could reach the upper 80s Thursday and Friday.

Friday was our 11th day this June with a high of 90 degrees or warmer in the Twin Cities. A check of Twin Cities 

 revealed just five other Junes with 11 or more days of 90 degrees or warmer:

The highest June total was 17 days of 90 or warmer, in 1933.
