Rain chances return for parts of Minnesota, but the heat returns for all

With the exception of rain chances in southern and western Minnesota through Saturday, the state heads into another drier trend and also turns hotter by next week.
Thursday’s forecast
Under mostly clear skies across Minnesota overnight, temperatures dropped 10 to 15 degrees below average, with most of the state in the 40s and 50s early Thursday. The Arrowhead even had a little spotty frost and 30s, and Hibbing set a record low at 34.
Thanks to partly sunny skies, and winds that shift more southerly during the day, almost the entire state will be back in the 70s with comfortable humidity.
Western and southern Minnesota especially can expect a few more clouds into the afternoon ahead of a storm that will also bring a few isolated showers and storms to that area.

Extended forecast
The precipitation that starts moving in Thursday is the leading edge of a storm that is expected to slide south of Minnesota, also keeping most of the rain and the severe weather risk south.
However, it will continue to clip southern Minnesota with occasional showers and a few storms Friday and Saturday.
While Northern Minnesota is unlikely to see any of the rain, and most of southern Minnesota will see limited totals, there could be areas along the Iowa border that see more than one-half inch of rain, which would be very beneficial because much of that region is in severe drought.
Meanwhile, as northern Minnesota stays drier and sunnier, that area starts to see 80s Friday, while 70s linger south. By Saturday, most of the state is in the 80s.
As all of Minnesota sees drier and sunnier weather Sunday, temperatures continue to climb, with more 80s and potentially a couple of 90s west.

Above-average temperatures then stay put most of the week, with most of the state experiencing highs in the 80s, and even a few 90s possible.
