Wintry mix spreads across Minnesota

Minnesota sees yet another week ahead with hot and predominantly dry weather, along with periods of haze due to wildfire smoke.

Thanks to the influence of high pressure, Minnesota had another quiet start Sunday morning, with clear skies, light winds, and seasonable lows in the 50s and 60s.

Under plentiful sunshine, highs make it into the 80s, with a few 90s likely north and west. 

It will be a hazy sunshine again, with smoke in the atmosphere from fires in Canada.  

However, under light winds across much of Minnesota from the southeast, the Arrowhead, which spent much of last week with air quality issues, is expected to have improved conditions, especially right along Lake Superior.

With a broad ridge of higher pressure building over the northern plains this week, it will be another hot and predominantly dry week for Minnesota.  By Tuesday, most of the state can expect highs in the 90s, and those 90s are likely to sick around at least until Saturday. The hottest weather stays on the western edge of Minnesota, where there could even be a couple isolated 100s later in the week.

Here is that forecast for the Twin Cities:

The pattern also keeps rain chances very sparse. 

A boundary that is forecast to sit over northern Minnesota will produce a couple isolated showers and storms Monday and Tuesday. 

Some of that spotty precipitation may make it into southern Minnesota Wednesday, including a slight chance for isolated storms around the Twin Cities Wednesday night. No severe weather is expected with those storms.  

Unfortunately, not much rainfall is expected, either.  Even with another spotty precipitation chance late-week, most of the state will see well under a quarter-inch of rain this week, with numerous areas that the precipitation may miss all-together. 

Next week is also likely to have hotter and drier than average weather, meaning no relief for Minnesota’s drought situation, which continues to worsen.
