High humidity is contributing to fog Monday morning

Minnesota is starting Monday very foggy and will end the day with storms and a risk for severe weather.

Monday’s forecast

A storm system over the weekend brought rain to most of southern Minnesota and higher dew points across the state. 

Now, as that system has moved out, and under clearing skies and light winds overnight, the state is beginning Monday under widespread fog that is dense in some areas, including many reports of visibility under one mile.

In fact, portions of central and northeast Minnesota including Duluth, Hinckley and Brainerd are under a dense fog advisory until 10 a.m.

All that moisture also kept temperatures mild overnight, and most of Minnesota started Monday off in the 60s with a couple isolated spots in the 50s.

As the fog lifts, sunshine breaks through, and by the afternoon it will be mostly sunny and hot.  Highs will be in the upper 80s and low 90s for most of the state. 

With dew points in the 60s and even a few 70s south, it will also be humid.

By Monday evening, another storm system starts pushing into northwestern Minnesota, bringing showers and storms along with it. Especially along the northwestern edge of Minnesota, scattered severe weather is possible, with damaging winds and large hail the primary risk. 

Any rain with the storms would be very beneficial given the drought and considering that northern Minnesota missed most of the rainfall over the weekend.

The storm brings rain chances across the rest of Minnesota by Tuesday morning, but otherwise the state goes back into a much drier pattern again in the coming week.
