Wintry mix spreads across Minnesota

Rain moves out Friday, but fog and drizzle stick around for much of the state. By Saturday however, sunshine returns and the holiday weekend is looking pleasant.

The storm that moved showers and occasional storms across the state on Thursday was still bringing light to a few spots in eastern Minnesota as of 10 a.m. Friday.

Rain will continue to move east and clear out by Friday afternoon. Behind the rain, an area of fog and drizzle is likely that could linger overnight and possibly into early Saturday.

The clouds overnight Thursday kept temperatures slightly above average, with 50s and low 60s Friday morning. 

However, the lingering cloud cover means temperatures rise little, with most of the state only  in the 60s for highs. 

Northwestern Minnesota may finally see a little sunshine by the afternoon, so that is the one spot that may get a couple of 70s.

Drier air returns Saturday, and most of the holiday weekend then stays predominantly quiet.

The one exception to the dry weather is northern Minnesota, which is likely to stay unsettled enough for a few spotty showers over the weekend.

There is also a chance for showers and a couple of storms across the state late Monday into Tuesday.

But overall, the holiday weekend remains largely dry, mostly sunny, and comfortable. Highs for almost the entire state make it back into the low 70s by Saturday, with slightly milder mid-70s to low 80s Sunday and Monday.

The extended outlook next week continues the trend of 70s most of the week, with occasional 60s north. Next week is also forecast to stay drier then average.
