Our pleasant Labor Day weekend weather continues today. It’ll be a bit cooler in the northern third of Minnesota, with highs there mainly in the 60s. Highs in the 70s are expected Sunday afternoon across the remainder of Minnesota plus western Wisconsin.
Rain chances?
Most areas will have a dry Sunday. There’s a chance of scattered showers in north-central and northeastern Minnesota later this afternoon and this evening. Parts of south-central and southeastern Minnesota could see an isolated Sunday afternoon shower.
Most of Labor Day looks dry. An approaching cold front could ignite some scattered showers and t-storms Monday evening in northern Minnesota. That chance of scattered showers/t-storms could then spread into parts of central Minnesota and northwestern Wisconsin overnight Monday night. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s North American Mesoscale (NAM) forecast model shows the potential rain pattern Monday afternoon through Tuesday morning:

Temperature trends
Labor Day highs reach the 80s in roughly the western third of Minnesota, with mainly 70s elsewhere:
Dew points will be in the comfortable 50s in most areas:
Back to high temperatures, Twin Cities metro area highs are projected to reach the mid 70s Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, followed by upper 70s on Friday.
We could top out around 80 degrees next weekend, and above-normal highs may linger into the following week. The NWS Climate Prediction Center shows a tendency for above-normal temps in Minnesota and western Wisconsin from Sept. 12 through Sept. 18:
Highs in the 90s
Our official Twin Cities temperature readings are taken at Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport. We’ve reached a Twin Cities high temp of 90 degrees or warmer on 26 days so far this year. Here’s the breakdown: 12 days of 90 or warmer in June, 10 days in July, then just 4 days of 90 or warmer in August. We haven’t reached 90 in September.
