Halloween brings chills as cold weather creeps in

Weekend weather turns from a treat to a bit of a trick as colder air may send skeletons rattling just in time for Halloween.

Friday’s forecast

The storm that brought Minnesota a brew of clouds and rain Wednesday into Thursday cleared east by Friday morning, returning dry skies to the state.

Lingering clouds Friday morning decrease west to east during the day, with most of Minnesota back in widespread sunshine by the afternoon.

In northwestern Minnesota, where clouds have already moved out, the combination of clear skies and predominantly calm winds overnight led to some thick morning fog.

The dense fog advisory in northwestern Minnesota was over by 9 a.m. but it extends until 11 a.m. in north-central Minnesota, as the mist slowly vanishes.

The clearer skies northwest also made it the spine-chilling spot Friday morning. Morning lows crept mostly into the 30s, with a couple 20s west. Eastern Minnesota started the day with milder 40s because of the cloud cover.

With the entire state getting more sunshine by Friday afternoon, almost everyone makes it back into the 50s for highs, which is slightly above average for late October.

A chill creeps in

Minnesota warms a couple more degrees Saturday under mostly sunny skies and bewitching winds from the south.

Despite it feeling mild, a cold front begins crawling its way across Minnesota by Saturday afternoon, passing through the state by evening.

This plunges highs by 10 to 15 degrees by Sunday, putting the entire state back into the frightful 40s.

For Halloween evening, temperatures will be in the upper 30s north and low 40s south early in the evening, with most spots dipping into the 30s by 8 p.m.

There will also be a ghostly breeze Sunday behind Saturday’s cold front, so any kids heading out to trick or treat would definitely benefit from a couple layers under their costumes!

Even more bone-rattling weather spreads over the state by Monday, putting highs mostly in the 30s north and 40s south for the rest of next week. Tuesday and Wednesday currently look like the coldest days of the week, and much of the state will not see highs make it out of the 30s those days.

Overnight lows around Minnesota are forecast to be predominantly in the terrifying 20s.
While nothing supernatural, the chilly highs and lows next week will be the coldest weather that has bewitched Minnesota so far this autumn.

Saturday’s cold front will be predominantly dry, although it could bring a couple light rain or snow showers right along the Canadian border on Sunday.

Otherwise, next week is looking mainly dry, with no big storms bubbling on the horizon. However, any precipitation that does slither into the state could include a little snow given the chilly weather.
