20s Sunday, then 30s Monday; Monday night snow in northern Minnesota

Our Sunday afternoon weather will be enjoyable across most of Minnesota and western Wisconsin, with near-normal temps and just a passing flurry chance.

It's a different story today from eastern New York through New England, where they are digging out from their Saturday blizzard.

At Boston’s Logan Airport, they tied Boston’s single-day snowfall record:

Some spots in Norfolk County, Massachusetts had 30 inches of snow. Many New England snow totals can be found here.

Portions of Minnesota and western Wisconsin could see a passing snow flurry this Sunday and Sunday night.

Parts of northwestern Minnesota will see snow begin by Monday evening, with the snow spreading across much of northern Minnesota Monday night into early Tuesday.

NOAA’s North American Mesoscale (NAM) forecast model shows the potential precipitation pattern from noon Monday to noon Tuesday:

Strong winds could cause severely reduced visibilities Monday evening into Tuesday, so the NWS has issued a winter storm watch from 6 p.m. Monday to 3 p.m. Tuesday in portions of northwestern Minnesota:

Temperature trends

Our average Twin Cities high temperature is 24 degrees this time of year. The metro area will have Monday highs in the 30s. Highs will range from 40s in far southwestern Minnesota to 20s in the northeast:

Monday midday wind gusts will be over 20 mph in northwestern Minnesota, but lower elsewhere:

Forecast gusts are in knots, with 20 knots equal 23 mph. Winds in northern Minnesota will ramp up later Monday afternoon and Monday evening.

Back to temperatures, our Twin Cities temp is forecast to be around 30 degrees at 1 or 2 in the morning on Tuesday, then we’ll have falling temps…into the lower 20s by sunrise Tuesday and then into the teens for most of the daylight hours of Tuesday. We’ll have arctic chill for Wednesday and Thursday, with highs in the single digits. (Minnesota will have lows in the teens and 20s below zero Thursday morning)  Twin Cities highs rebound to the upper teens on Friday. One forecast model shows metro area highs close to 30 degrees next Saturday.
