Sunday was a fairly typical late-January day, with a high at Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport of 23 degrees. That’s just shy of our average Jan. 30 high of 24 degrees.
Monday’s high temps will reach the 30s across much of Minnesota and western Wisconsin, with 20s in north-central and northeastern Minnesota:
A few spots in far southwestern Minnesota could top 40 degrees.

Parts of northwestern Minnesota will see snow begin by Monday evening, with the snow spreading across much of northern Minnesota Monday night into early Tuesday.

Temperature trends
After a Monday high in the 30s, Twin Cities temps will retreat sharply. Twin Cities temps are forecast to be around 30 degrees at 1 or 2 in the morning on Tuesday, then we’ll have falling temps—through the 20s during the morning hours then into the teens Tuesday afternoon. Arctic cold returns for Tuesday night through Thursday. Metro area highs will be in the single-digits Wednesday and Thursday, followed by upper teens on Friday. One forecast model shows Twin Cities highs close to 30 degrees next weekend.
Minnesota’s coldest low temps this week will be early Thursday morning, with teens and 20s below zero:
